Stress

Stress is the enemy, and according to the Mayo Clinic, “stress that’s left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes”. It’s a topic that has been explored since the early part of the last century and the data has not changed. It attacks us physically and is really bad for our psychological well-being. Most people feel stressed and overwhelmed but don’t know how to manage it. To feel less stressed and overwhelmed we need to identify the source of the stress. There are two types of stress, one is situations that are stressful that we choose (graduate school, training for something new) and life stressors that we don’t choose (illness, caring for someone who is ill). Basically any types of changes in our life creates stress.
Approach
Stress management is a bit of an oxymoron as we cannot manage stress, we can only manage how we deal with stress. Using techniques from mindfulness and minimalism I help people prioritize what to focus on and ways to adapt to life’s stressors and challenges. During the sessions we incorporate self care strategies so life becomes less overwhelming and more enjoyable.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
